Michigan Mental Health Crisis Resources — 988 Lifeline & Local Help
What this means
The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a free, 24/7 nationwide network that connects callers to a trained counselor in their area — for themselves OR someone they're worried about. Calls from Michigan numbers route to one of 12 in-state crisis call centers staffed by Michigan-licensed counselors. 988 launched in July 2022 and replaced the old 10-digit lifeline number.
What you can do
- In immediate crisis: call or text 988 (TTY: dial 711 then 988).
- Veterans: call 988 then press 1 — connects to the Veterans Crisis Line.
- For a friend or family member in crisis: stay with them, remove access to means, and call 988 together.
- Non-crisis support: each Michigan county has a Community Mental Health (CMH) agency — find yours at https://www.macmhb.org
